Sharp Reviews Of A Cross Section Of Major Motion Pictures

Movie reviews follow this paragraph. If you want to download these movies do some searches to find what is out there. You should have good luck with a search like “Hindi Movie Rentals”; if not then try “Top 100 Movie Rentals” and “New Movie Downloads”.

Barfly: A surprisingly entertaining portrayal of L.A. lowlife, and boozy, recklessly macho author Henry Chinaski, played with bravado by Rourke. Dunaway is magnificent as his alcoholic soul mate. Based on the autobiographical writings of cult top choice Charles Bukowski, who might be noticed on one of the bar stools. Cast includes Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway, Alice Krige, Jack Nance, J.C. Quinn, and Frank Stallone. (97 minutes, 1987)

Raintree County: Clift is a small town Hoosier who makes the blunder of wedding Southern belle Taylor before the start of the Civil War. Intense performances and memorable Johnny Green score help make up for the over-long script. Clift was maimed in near-lethal automobile mishap throughout production, and his work understandably agonizes for it. Cast includes Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, Eva Marie Savior, Lee Marvin, and Nigel Patrick. (168 minutes, 1957)

The Happening: A light hearted and light headed caper tale focusing around the abduction of a now honorable used to be gangster (Quinn). This is Dunaway’s film debut. The title melody became No. 1 hit for The Supremes. Cast includes Anthony Quinn, George Maharis, Michael Parks, Robert Stroller, Faye Dunaway, Milton Berle, Oscar Homolka, Jack Kruschen, Clifton James, and Eugene Roche. (101 minutes, 1967)

Foxtrot: O’Toole and his spouse escape Rumania in the late 1930s and shelter on an island heaven to hide from a world getting ready to explode into battle. Shallow, unsurprising drama; filmed in Mexico. Cast includes Peter O’Toole, Charlotte Rampling, Max von Sydow, Jorge Luke, Helen Rojo, and Claudio Brook. (91 minutes, 1976)

The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe: This is a witty re-creation of Lily Tomlin’s 1985 one female Broadway show. Her characterizations run the gamut from box woman to juvenile delinquent to New Age Lady, with much of the material in a feminist vein. The show stars Lily Tomlin obviously. (120 minutes, 1991)

Gypsy Girl: Gypsy Girl is a brooding account of the backward Hayley Mills finding her first romance with McShane exciting yet unstable. Cast includes Hayley Mills, Ian McShane, Laurence Naismith, and Geoffrey Bayldon. (102 minutes, 1966)

PCU: Political correctness is out of sorts at Port Chester University which leads to the unavoidable conflict between a cadre of excessively militant scholar groups and a college girl group who revel in their political incorrectness. Cast includes Jeremy Piven, Chris Youthful, David Spade, Megan Ward, Jon Favreau, Jessica Walter, Sarah Spark, Jake Busey, and George Clinton. (80 minutes, 1994)

Ironweed: William Kennedy adjusted his Pulitzer Prize novel in reference to road individuals, set in Albany, N.Y., 1938. Nicholson plays a guy trying to come to terms with the life he turned his back on years ago. Streep is his longtime friend who, like him, can?t stay off the bottle for long. Cast includes Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Carroll Baker, Michael O’Keefe, Diane Venora, Fred Gwynne, Margaret Whitton, Tom Delays, Jake Dengel, Nathan’ Aisle, James Gammon, Joe Grifasi, Bethel Leslie, Ted Levine, and Frank Whaley. (144 minutes, 1987)

Pajama Party: The fourth beach party film moves inside, changes director and megastar (albeit Frankie Avalon and Don Rickles do have cameos). Kirk plays an alien adolescent who drops in and is understandably confused. Just fair, albeit it’s unconditionally fine to see Keaton at work. Cast includes Tommy Kirk, Annette Funicello, Dorothy Lamour, Elsa Lanchester, Harvey Lembeck, Jody McCrea, Buster Keaton, Susan Hart, and Donna Loren. (85 minutes, 1984)
